About the Authors
Vicki Martin commenced working at Frankston Community Support and Information Centre as a volunteer in 1982 and has been manager of the Centre since 1990. Vicki has a background in marketing and business administration and under her leadership the Centre has developed its services and projects to become a leader in its field. Vicki's contribution has had a strong focus on community building, especially partnerships between the Centre, other community organisations, business and government.
In 2001 Vicki received the Paul Harris Rotary Award for her work in the community and in 2003 she was awarded the Centenary Medal for her work with disadvantaged people.
John Murphy is manager of Mornington Peninsula Community Connections - an independent non-profit and free advisory service to grass-roots community groups, established in 1997 in conjunction with Barrie Thomas, then director of The Body Shop Australia and now director of The Body Shop in New Zealand.
John is a previous manager of Frankston Community Support and Information Centre and a former chairman of the Centre's Committee of Management. After working in the printing industry for 10 years John became a social worker in 1981. He completed a PhD in 1992 and worked for seven years teaching social work at Monash University.
John has published widely in the areas of poverty, community development and partnerships with business and has presented seminars and workshops on these topics both in Australia and overseas.
